I am a 50+ year old business and family man from St Francis Bay.
Our entry for the race is a 9.55 meter trimaran from the New Zeeland multihull designer Ian Farrier. The boat's homeport is Port St Francis in the resort town of St Francis Bay.
The boat is sailing under the burgee of Redhouse Yacht Club, a dinghy sailing club on the banks of the Zwartkops River outside Port Elizabeth where I first started my sailing in a home-built Optimist dinghy.
My serious bluewater sailing started when I skippered a boat in the 1982 South Atlantic Race from Cape Town to Punta Del Este, Uruguay, followed by a solo Atlantic crossing back to South Africa. In subsequent years I crossed the Atlantic another three times and sailed two passages from South Africa to Europe, calling at St Helena on both occasions.
I hold a Yachtmaster Offshore qualification and was a former Cruising Association of South Africa examiner.
