Tinus Groenewald, Reaction
The yacht is a Royal Cape One Design. The design originated in the late 1950`s with Zeeslang being the prototype. The first RCOD`s were built out of plywood in the early 1960`s.
Reaction (number 38) was one of the first to built in fiberglass in the early 1980`s.
The boat is 9.05 m long and very narrow (2.13m), weighing approximately 1800kg
We will be sailing four up with myself Thinus Groenewald being the skipper, Charl Cilliers the watch captain and my two boys Corné aged 19 and Ruan 17 the crew.
Myself and the two boys did the 1998 St Helena race with my previous boat– Waka Waka.(40 foot) At that stage they were only 7 and 5 years old.
This time we will be doing it the hard way with a much smaller boat and no luxuries!! We are looking forward to the challenge.
