JML Rotary Scout
JML Rotary Scout is a Tosca 39 owned by the South African Scout Association. The yacht is moored at False Bay Yacht Club in Simonstown and has a very active sailing programme. Scouts are taken sailing most weekends. And around 400 school children from less privileged schools have been taken on a Marine Environmental Awareness Programme, run by the Scout Association, over the last 18 months. The youth stay at the Sea Scout Base at Sandvlei in Lakeside where they learn Marine Ecology, enjoy a trip to the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront and, of course, learn the basics of sailing on JML Rotary Scout.
The Cape Windjammers Educational Trust use JML Rotary Scout to undertake experiential life-skills training on the yacht.
Two of the adult volunteers, Mark Jennings and Peter Bosch, will co-skipper JML Rotary Scout on the Governor’s Cup Yacht Race. There will be six youth on board between the ages of 14 and 18. Two of the youth will be Scouts from 1st Jamestown Scout Group on St Helena Island.
We are very grateful to two of our sponsors, the Jewish Maritime League and the Eikos Group, who have made it possible for JML Rotary Scout to undertake this trip.
