Some important notes about the Map Plotter:
You will notice two changes since yesterday the first is that we are now showing the corrected times calculated from the leader of each class. Also modified is the way in which you view the list of boats, they now show first by Class then by order of corrected times.

News From John Leslie
""The IRC racing class shows no changes overnight, but the leader Patches is steadily increasing their lead over the 2nd placed Lusty.

I can report the Patches has even managed to catch and land a Dorado whilst sailing along under what the skipper Jeremy Bagshaw now calls the Big Red – we assume their biggest Red Spinnaker.

On Running with Scissors Lionel reported that he has managed to Jury rig an Asymmetric Spinnaker off what remains of the bow sprit, but has once again discovered a massive hole in the so called SE trade winds. His has strapped up his sore ribs and will soldier onwards.

Positions in the Cruising Division have changed dramatically from yesterday. The 2 yachts that went into stealth mode yesterday and didn’t report for some or other reason have suddenly leapt to the front of the fleet. The big loser is Moments, but it seems he has gone into stealth mode today. Interestingly both Blazing and Little Redwing were both positioned well to the East of the fleet and this is perhaps proving to be the correct tactic.""

Patches Log Book ..........From where I last left off..

G'day all,

We're all safe and sound and having some mixed enjoyment type sailing! Three days of great stuff followed by the last 6 hrs of horrendously confused seas and a rapidly dying wind.

03/01/2009 15h19: log 639 miles. wind is approx (difficult to say when the windex is making circles in the sky) SE but never more than 6 knots true speed. VMG = 4 knots ....

Introduction to the Governor's Cup Yacht Race

The Governor's Cup is an exciting 1700-mile summer ocean race from Cape Town to James Bay on St Helena Island. Entrants typically range from fast racing boats with experienced crews to cruising boats manned by small families, some of which may afterwards sail on from the island to other destinations. All are able to enjoy the usually prevailing downwind conditions followed by an activity-filled stay on St Helena Island across the festive season culminating in a comfortable return early in the New Year to South Africa for crews, supporters and yachts aboard the 7000-ton mixed cargo/passenger ship, the RMS St Helena.

Originally introduced with support of the then Governor of St Helena, David Smallman, the master of the RMS St Helena and others, this race first took place in 1996. Held every two years and organized and managed by the False Bay Yacht Club, the main event is preceded by a 'Bay-to-Bay' feeder race that brings both the racing and supporting fleets together in the international V&A Marina at the Cape Town Waterfront. Here all complete their final preparations while enjoying the fabulous facilities of this world-famous location. Starting one week later, the Governor's Cup race pits the fleet of competing boats above 30 feet in length against each other in an 8 to14 day handicap chase across the South Atlantic to St Helena Island.

What makes participation in this race so special is that the crews can then relax and enjoy a sub-tropical holiday, joined by supporters and family who can connect with the contestants via a comfortable and economical sea cruise to and from the island on board the RMS St Helena; a never to be forgotten experience with something in it for everyone.
